  • 19 children and two adults were killed in Tuesday’s shooting.

A classmate told the Daily Beast that the shooter who killed 19 children and two adults at an elementary school in Ovaldi, Texas, was seen hitting animals.

β€œHe would go to the park and try to pick up people and he loved hurting animals,” said Jamie Arellano, who attended Ovaldi High School with the shooter.

Arellano said the shooter would start fights with people.

“I remember one time we saw him hit a little dog without feeling,” he told The Daily Beast.

The Washington Post reported that relatives and neighbors said the shooter had a rough childhood. Two months before the shooting, he moved in with his grandmother after a quarrel with his mother.

On Tuesday, the 18-year-old gunman shot his grandmother in the face before taking her car, causing an accident and entering Robb Elementary School, holed up in a classroom and killing 21 people.

His friends and family described the shooter as aloof and said he was kept alone. Some described violent tendencies.

In the days following the shooting, many people came forward and exchanged violent messages that the shooter shared online. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the gunman shared his plans to shoot his grandmother and an elementary school teacher shortly before the attack in a private message on Facebook.

The shooter also shared his plans with a German teenager via social media app Yubo, and the teen said she didn’t know he was serious.
