2022 – ‘A dream come true’: Calvin Ramsey completes Liverpool transfer | Liverpool

Liverpool have completed the signing of Scotland Under-21 defender Calvin Ramsey from Aberdeen, subject to an international permit. The 18-year-old joins the Premier League club in a ‘long-term deal’ believed to be worth £4m initially, with an additional £2.5m as potential additions.

“I’m just freaking out and it’s really a dream come true to be here,” Ramsay said. “It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen and now to play for one of the biggest, if not the biggest, clubs in the world is a huge achievement and I’m looking forward to showing the fans what I can do for the fans you have.”

Ramsey was named Young Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers Association for the 2021/22 season and was shortlisted for the Scotland Young Player of the Year award. The right-back rose through the youth ranks at Aberdeen, making his debut in March 2021 and making 39 appearances, scoring once.

It is Jurgen Klopp’s third signing of the summer after the arrival of Darwin Nunez from Benfica and the announcement of Fabio Carvalho’s official joining Fulham on 1 July.

“There’s clearly a way here – and that’s also one of the reasons I chose him,” added Ramsey, who has capped his country three times at the under-21 level. “Not only is it a huge club, they give young players opportunities in the first team. So if I can come in pre-season and make my mark, there is no reason why I can’t push for a first-team formation.”

Ramsey’s departure is a record sale for the Scottish Premier League, eclipsing the £3m fee they received in September 2020 when Scott McKenna joined Nottingham Forest.

“Liverpool are very fortunate to have such promising young talent,” said Aberdeen coach Jim Goodwin. “His stats in the first half of last season were among the best full-backs in the world. We certainly had high hopes for him and I have no doubts that he will continue to grow into a very good team at Liverpool.”
