- Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer, Michael Sussman, has been found not guilty of lying to the FBI.
- The ruling comes as a blow to John Durham’s three-year investigation.
- The federal jury deliberated in the capital for six hours to make that decision.
Attorney Michael Sussman, a former attorney for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, was acquitted Tuesday of lying to the FBI and dealing a blow to Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation.
The jury in Washington, D.C. deliberated for six hours to reach a verdict. Durham examines the origins of the FBI’s investigation between Trump and Russia. Prosecutors accused Sussman of lying to the FBI during a meeting with federal agencies about former President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia during the 2016 presidential election, but legal observers noted that the evidence against Sussman was “extremely weak.”

Durham said in a statement that he was disappointed with the ruling, but added: “We respect the jury’s decision and thank them for their service.”
“I would also like to acknowledge and thank the investigators and the prosecution team for their dedicated efforts in the search for truth and justice in this case,” Durham said.
