2022 – Elon Musk says he ‘doesn’t really care’ about being the CEO of Twitter or his nickname: ‘But people need to listen to me’

In his first meeting with Twitter employees, Musk spoke about a range of topics, including remote work and whether he would become Twitter’s CEO.

  • Elon Musk addressed Twitter employees for the first time in an hour-long meeting on Thursday.
  • He said he doesn’t care about being the CEO of Twitter but expects people to listen to him anyway.
  • “I just want to make sure the product develops quickly and well,” he added.

In his first meeting with Twitter employees this week, Elon Musk said he doesn’t care about being the company’s CEO.

ÔÇťThere are so many responsibilities to being a CEO. And I just want to make sure the product moves fast and in a good way.ÔÇŁ

“I don’t really care about the title. But people have to listen to me,” he added.

The billionaire has expressed a similar philosophy about the leadership titles at his two companies, SpaceX and Tesla. In March 2021, Musk called himself a “techno king” and CFO Zach Kirkorn a “coin master,” according to official filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“All of these other titles are basically made out,” Musk previously said at the 2021 CEO Board Summit in the Wall Street Journal. “So CEO is a made-up title, CFO is a made-up title, General Counsel… it doesn’t mean anything.”

At SpaceX and Tesla, Musk cares more about engineering and production than the administrative and operational responsibilities that usually accompany the CEO title, he explained in an extensive Twitter meeting Thursday. If Musk’s deal to buy Twitter goes through, the billionaire wants to focus his attention on the “software and product design” of the app.

“When I say, ‘Hey, we need to improve the product like this and add these features,’ I expect people to listen to me on that,” he told Twitter employees.
