“I wrote before the semi-final second leg Against Luton and expect Thomas Al-Sorba to come in and make the difference – he did,” says Alistair Harris. “This time I’m not sure of the win, but if we win it will be our set of sets. Come on, dogs! “

From afar, the first goal appears to be more important than usual, both teams are very good at counter-attacks, and both have insecurities that are exacerbated when they fall behind.

Music before the game (jungle version)

Of all the singles duels today, none is quite as exciting as that between Harry Tovolo and Jdid Spence, two of the tournament’s best players.

Read before the game

You don’t have to be a fan of Forrest To have the weakest point for this guy. At the height of his life on both sides of Italy 90, he was as good as any English defender in my life. And he always sang “You’ll Never Beat Des Walker” by Gary Lineker when they played against each other.

“The first time I came here was to see Michael Jackson!” 🕺

Team news

It looks like Jonathan Hough will return to midfield with Huddersfield, although with Carlos Corbran, no one will ever know.

There are two changes from the second leg win over Luton: Naby Sarr and set-piece champion Sorba Thomas replaces John Russell and Duane Holmes.

No surprises at Team Forrest. Steve Cooper’s only decision was whether to start with Keenan Davis or Sam Surage up front. He left because of Davis.

Preamble

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Championship Final between Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest at Wembley. We are contractually obligated to call this “the richest game in football” and what a totally miserable way to look at it. This game, of course, is all about money, but it is also about fame, ecstasy, and creating timeless memories.

By tonight, one of those teams will be a first-class team – Forest for the first time since 1999, and Huddersfield for only the second time since 1972. There is a lot of goodwill towards Forrest, especially among us older farts, and the world will feel it was less of a nuisance, when They play in the Premier League again next season. But there are two teams playing today, and in many ways a promotion from Huddersfield would be an even better story.

Since relegating to the championship in 2019, Huddersfield has finished 18th, 20th…and now third. Carlos Corberan did the most amazing job in his second season with the club. But also Steve Cooper, who finished at the bottom of the standings for Forrest in September. Both are smart, modern coaches and one of them will count Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Antonio Conte among their peers next season. How sexy is this?

Both teams got here on the cheap – Huddersfield with a squad that cost around £2m, Forest through judicious use of the loan scheme. In a plutocracy they have no place at Wembley Stadium. But this game is about much more than just money.
