2022 – I visited Seabrook in the Pacific Northwest, and this car-free city of Washington felt like a fairy tale

Also known as “Washington’s Beach Town,” Seebach is a quaint and lively beach town overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Located two and a half hours west of Seattle, Seabrook feels like a fairytale.

Anything you could need—a bite to eat, a gym, or even a manicure—is within walking distance of every Seabrook home.

It’s a real breath of fresh sea air.

A trip to Seabrook is a great base for visiting Washington’s Olympic National Park, Lake Quinault, and other beautiful nearby beaches. Or it can be a great place to relax and enjoy a weekend by the sea.

Seabrook has over 475 homes spread across eight neighborhoods, all within a 10-minute walk of town

There are more than 475 homes in Seabrooks eight uniquely designed neighborhoods, all built around downtown.

Each neighborhood has its own name and flair, from Elk Creek, which sits right on the ocean, to the Farm District, which includes a large barn, horses, and community garden.

Each of these groups is centered around at least one green space, and Seabrook has a total of 18 parks.

Open, winding streets connect neighborhoods to the city center, where kids and teens can roam free and adults can meet friends at the local pub (in this case, a trendy, upscale wine bar).

One of the main reasons Seabrook feels so special is that Stephen Polakos, director of urban development, and Lawrence Qamar, urban designer and urban planner, designed the city using the New Urbanism approach, an urban planning concept that includes everything from homes to accessible stores, walkable public spaces, and more. On foot or by short bike.

Some cars are still in use around town, but it’s not necessary – everything is a 10 minute walk or less.

The goal of this type of design is to create a central area for the local community to meet and get necessities like groceries.

The coastal city offers a variety of activities, from farmers markets to bombing

Visitors can explore a variety of merchants in downtown Seabrook. Boutiques sell souvenirs and toys, and restaurants offer local pastries, ice cream and dishes.

In the city there is a central amphitheater, several sports fields, an indoor pool and fireplaces. Seabrook also hosts a number of local events throughout the year from farmers markets, outdoor summer party series, beachside yoga sessions, fall festivals, and holiday celebrations.

In the city center there are wide sidewalks and walking paths that lead directly to the beach. Cobbled piers gradually give way to oyster trails as you venture out into the ocean and merge with the natural surroundings.

As for outdoor activities, there is plenty of terrain for mountain biking and hiking. Spotting floats (a little-known but common winter beach activity in the Pacific Northwest) and clam digging in Seabrook attract people from all over the country.

Seabrook is a relatively new and rapidly growing city

Seabrook is a young town, founded less than two decades ago in 2004 by Casey and Laura Roloff.

And the city continues to grow. In addition to building new homes, the planning team is working on building new common spaces, including a large grocery store and an ’80s-inspired arcade.
