Prominent Indian rapper and politician Seydou Moss Walla was shot dead on Sunday. He was 28 years old.
Moss Walla, real name Chopdeep Singh Sidu, was shot dead by an unknown gunman while he was driving his car near his home in Mansa district of Punjab state, India. Punjab Police Chief Virish Kumar Bhaura was quoted by CNN as saying. After the shooting, Baurah told reporters, Moss Walla was taken to a hospital where his death was confirmed.
Bhaura told reporters that the rapper left his home around 4:30 p.m. local time in a car with two other people. About an hour later, two more cars of Moose Wala approached the front and opened fire, CNN reported, citing Bhawra.
Bhaura said the police department’s preliminary investigation into the attack concluded that the shooting was linked to gang rivalry. CBS News reports.
But India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi party of allowing the shooting.
“Sido Mos Walla was shot dead in a state-sponsored assassination,” the BJP said in a statement, according to CNN. “The AAP government is solely responsible for this.”
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a member of the AAP . said He said he was “shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific killing of Seydou Moss Walla” and that “none of those involved survived”.

Protests erupted in the wake of Moss Walla’s death, and members of the Congressional Committee in Delhi Pradesh took to the streets on Monday after the news.
CNN, citing the Press Trust of India, reported that the shooting came just a day after the Punjab government cut security coverage for more than 400 officers, including Moss Wall.
However, Moose Wala still had some protection as he had two guards at his disposal. Bhaura told reporters he chose not to use it on Sunday.
“When he left his house, he didn’t take any order [guards] They wouldn’t have to come,” Bhaura said, according to CNN.
Moss Walla rose to fame after his first release in 2017, becoming an outstanding musician and a household name.
Rapper Drake shared the news of Moose Wala’s death in a since-deleted Instagram post, adding “RIP Moose” to the caption, according to CNN.
British rapper Stefflon Don shared a slideshow of Moose Wala’s photos and videos on her Instagram in Memory.
“Rest in the legend of strength, your influence will be forever,” she wrote in the caption.
“Very devastating and disturbing news,” comedian Lily Singh wrote on Instagram.
“On his interest in his community, he created a soundtrack that made so many of us feel visible, a perfect blend of hip-hop, rap and folk music,” Singh continued, adding “Rest in the Power, thank you for changing his playing.”
