The Ukrainian army reported progress in its southern counteroffensive and continued efforts to halt the Russian advance in the eastern Donbass region.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Monday reported additional Russian efforts to weaken Ukrainian defenses in Luhansk and Donetsk, saying that artillery, air strikes and missiles have been used at several locations – including Lysechansk and Solidar.

Russian pressure continues on Severodonetsk, a city where two-thirds of its property has been reported destroyed – the General Staff said hostilities in and around the city continue.

As the Russians attack the Ukrainian lines in the Donbass from the south, east, and north, there are conflicting claims about their advance.

The General Staff said fighting continued around the village of Komishovahka, southwest of Severodonetsk. A social media video mapped by CNN shows a geography of a Chechen unit in the village, with drone footage indicating the withdrawal of Ukrainian soldiers from the area. A Chechen commander says: This area is now under our control and we will start storming all fronts. We can say that we have completely conquered Komichovahka. ”

Ukraine has had some successes in the offensive in the south that began over the weekend. “The enemy was wounded and withdrew from the village of Mykolaivka in the Kherson region, which caused panic among the soldiers of other units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” said the General Staff.

The withdrawal of Russian troops from Mykolaivka would mean a gain of several kilometers for Ukrainian units.

The General Staff reported the continued bombing of cross-border settlements in the northern Chernihiv and Sumy regions, as well as the bombing of areas north of the city of Kharkiv, which Ukrainian forces recently regained control.
