Naomi Osaka described feeling “amazed” during a stampede at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday when fear of an active gunman nearby triggered the stampede.
According to the New York Times, 10 people were injured in the early hours when a loud noise on the street outside sparked panic among those emerging from a boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero.
The noise caused people to frantically flee to the place, resulting in a stampede in which several people were thrown to the ground and trampled on.
Police investigated and concluded that no bullets had been fired, but were unable to find the source of the noise, the New York Times reported.
Osaka was at the Barclays Center with her rapper boyfriend Kordi at the time, and the tennis star shared her experience of the incident on social media.
“I was inside a Barclays mall and all of a sudden I heard screaming and saw people running, then we screamed in the presence of an active shooter and had to huddle in a room and lock the doors,” the 24-year-old tweeted on Sunday morning
