Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger went on to say in an interview that raising the minimum age to purchase guns to 21 was a “no brainer.” ABC’s “This Week” Sunday.

“If you look at the Parkland shooting, look at Buffalo, look at this shooting; these are people under the age of 21,” Kinzinger said. “We know that the human brain develops and matures remarkably between the ages of 18 and 21.”

His comments come after recent mass shootings across the country, including at an elementary school in Ovaldi, Texas, and a local grocery store in Buffalo, New York — both of which happened this month.

Kinzinger also noted the similarities between the gunmen accused in these two incidents, the Parkland, Florida, school gunman, who were all under 21 at the time of the attacks. All of the incidents are among the deadliest mass shootings in US history.

“We raised the age to buy cigarettes across the country to 21 without even the blink of an eye,” the Illinois congressman said. “I think we’ll have to get there eventually.”

During the interview, Jonathan Karl, supervisor asked Kinzinger If he agrees with Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who supports a ban on assault weapons.

“I’m certainly ready to have that conversation,” Kinzinger replied, “and that might eventually include not selling it anymore.” “It’s good because my focus now is on saving lives.”

He continued, “At the same time, what is the first thing we can do to alleviate this problem, let’s raise the age to 21 years. And I think considering the augmented reality discussion as a short-term and short-term and long-term goal as well.”
