  • David Leach tells insiders how he pulled off the big surprise in the movie.
  • “You paid your money, and you want to be surprised,” Leach said, giving the audience a little something extra.

Since producing John Wick, director David Leitch has not only enriched the action movie genre with films like Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw, but he’s also given us some great headlines along the way.

Bullet Train is no different.

The new comic strip, which stars Brad Pitt as a hitman named Lady Bug, features some hilarious A-list stunts that have him taking a train from Japan to Kyoto to get a bag at his last job.

It’s a trend that has continued in Leitch films since Deadpool 2, when Pitt was revealed to be a Marvel Vanisher character, who faces a horrific death like the rest of the X-Force cast in the film.

Fast & Furious Shows: Hobbs & Shaw made a surprise appearance when Kevin Hart appeared in a hilarious interaction with leaders Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Now in Bullet Train, Leitch has upped the ante by giving us two very high quality and amazing engravings.

Channing Tatum plays a train rider with a weird side that we encounter multiple times in the movie and offers some great laughs.

Later in the movie, the mysterious Carver is revealed. (Carver’s name is mentioned several times in the movie. He’s the killer who was originally slated for the job but had to cancel at the last second, resulting in Ladybug getting the job.)

As the memorable, dramatic story reaches its poignant conclusion, we learn that the entire mission has been orchestrated to get Carver on the train.

In a shot full of explosions, we find out that Carver is only played by Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds.

Leitch told Insider that all of these engravings were possible due to his and his team’s relationships with many stars in Hollywood. A phone call can do a day’s work quickly.

However, Leitch noted that in Reynolds’ case, he also made sure to remind the “Deadpool 2” star of his relationship with Pete.

“I just gave him an idea, why don’t you pay Brad for the cameos in Deadpool 2,” said Leach. “That was really all it took. He said, ‘I’m in.’ He was really grateful that Brad did that for him, so he really wanted to support us on that.”

Leach said he really enjoys attracting big vignettes to fans.

“When you pay your money and go to the theater, you want to have a good time,” he said. “So when I watch the last ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ or ‘Deadpool’ and this movie, the cameos really work for me as I hug them.”

He continued, “I’m looking for opportunities, we’re looking for relationships with actors on set.” “If I feel the material is true, I lean towards it. You paid your money, you want to be surprised.”

Bullet Train is currently in theaters.
