The short video app is believed to have completed migrating the data of its US customers to servers in Oracle to answer questions about TikTok user data storage in the US. The move could meet the demands of US regulators, which have had concerns about the safety of data collected in the app.
Trump’s electoral loss to Biden allowed TikTok to stay out of the hands of corporate America
TikTok transfers US user data storage to Oracle servers
TikTok added, “It is also important to maintain backup data storage locations to protect against disaster scenarios in which user data might be lost. The data center in Singapore serves as a data backup location for our US users.”
You may remember that Oracle was once one of three US companies involved in talks to buy the popular app. The other two companies are Microsoft and Walmart. TikTok’s servers will eventually be wiped out, and as the company said, “Today, 100% of US user traffic is directed to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Expect us to wipe private US users’ data from our data centers and on the entire Oracle.” – Cloud servers in states will be switched.
TikTok wants to dispel any doubts about the security of data centers used in the USA
TikTok has also set up a dedicated US data security team called “USDS” to act as the gatekeeper for US user information. The USDS team tries to protect the data collected from users in the United States. “We know we are among the most scrutinized platforms from a security standpoint, and we want to eliminate any doubt about the integrity of US user data,” the social media company said. “We are committed to earning and maintaining the trust of our community and will continue to work every day to protect our platform and provide a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience for our community.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said last year that the government “takes protecting Americans’ privacy seriously,” but criticized Trump’s actions. “Issuing an executive order that makes no sense for TikTok is not the way to force changes to the platform,” Raimondo said.
